Selling Your Wares on the Web - Part 1

Welcome to a three part series on Electronic Commerce (e-commerce).
What is e-commerce?  Quite simply it is the the buying and selling of
products and services by businesses and consumers over the Internet.
Nearly all experts believe that overall e-commerce will increase
exponentially in coming years.

But how can e-commerce be effective for a business in Campbell
River?  Well it all depends on what you have to offer.

A museum gift shop, a pasta restaurant that sells bottled sauces, a
local artisan, a caterer with the best black berry jam this side of
Canada - these are all examples of business's that could do well by
e-commerce. What does your business have to offer that is unique and
desirable?

If you have a unique idea, which ends in a transaction of funds you are
in a position to give e-commerce a try. This not only includes tangible
products but services as well;  it can be the ability to make and pay for
reservations for float planes, bed and breakfasts or wilderness tours or
the ability to order groceries online and have them delivered to your
home. The ideas are only limited by your imagination.

Campbell River and Vancouver Island is in a great position to offer
unique products to the world. An excellent example of what Campbell
River could do can be found at Tidespoint Market Place - The
Newfoundland and Labrador Market. Just go to www.tidespoint.com
and check out their books, music, food, crafts, health products,
images, videos and household prodcuts. Canadian, east coast products
available to the world!

Another example of a business that has successfully used the Internet
to sell their product is The Flying noodle at www.flyingnoodle.com
A new twist on the notion of food-to-go. The Flying Noodle has been
serving gourmet pastas and sauces to the Internet community since
1995.

And wouldn’t it be nice if we had an online grocery store? Well
Edmonton is one of many cities that does. Check out Home Express at
www.homexpress.ab.ca  Edmonton's online supermarket.

Those are a few business's that have made a go of Electronic
commerce. Check them out and get ready for next month when we will
talk about the infrastructure that your business needs to support
e-commerce.
