New Employee Wage Subsidy Program
Who Can
Apply
Individuals who are unemployed and/or working 20 hours or less, and require retraining, may be eligible for the New Employee Wage Subsidy Program (NEWS). To qualify, you must be on Employment Insurance or have had a claim in the last three years (fives years for maternity or parental). Program applications are available through North Island Employment.
You must apply for the wage subsidy and a contract with a wage subsidy employer must be in place before you start work.
Training Options
The choice of what career to pursue is up to you, but the employer must be offering at least 30 hours of work per week with a good long-term outlook. Part-time employment may be considered in special circumstances.
