Details:
Position will be based mainly in the Comox Valley with some travel to Campbell River. Job is for 30 hours per week, starting April 30th and ending August 26th, 2014
Work under the supervision of, and report to, the Waste Reduction Education consultant
Learn about the Comox Strathcona Waste Management region and plan
Assist in creating engaging waste reduction education programs incorporating the 5 R's: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Re-use, Recycle for public and youth
Deliver waste reduction education programs to youth and adults at public events or schools
Contact and engage the required stakeholders for the MMBC plan and for Industrial/Commercial/Institutional waste
Monitor recycling depots and deliver surveys to people at recycling depots or public events, preferably using i-pad or i-phone (or equivalent)
Train and apply some elements of Community Based Social Marketing to foster behaviour changes
Meet with supervisor weekly, face to face or via Skype
Write report for all public events attended
Maintain stats for public events (people/hour, stock items)
Understand that waste is a valuable resource
Write monthly report
Possibly assist with Campbell River watershed protection education (campsite visits, recreation monitoring)
Qualifications & Experience:
2nd - 4th year post-secondary student in resource management, or life/earth sciences
Likes working with people, adults/children
Positive, can-do attitude,
Respectful
Dependable, reliable
Mature enough to work on their own with minimum supervision, also able to work as a team
Able to follow procedures, but also able to improvise as necessary
Creative problem solver
Willing to travel between Courtenay and Campbell River
Available to work with flexible scheduling, days weekends, or occasional evenings
30 hours/week,
Must have own car and preferably with access to Google docs through hand-held device
Must have access to computer, be computer literate, able to write reports in word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs
