Details:
Whale Watching Vessel Skipper
We are looking for a skipper / naturalist to run our 30 foot open, fibreglass vessel for our summer season. The season begins mid June/1st July and goes until mid to end of September. Our tours are 3 to 3.5 hours long departing from two locations - Alert Bay and Alder Bay. Accommodation will be provided.
As skipper you will be expected to use equipment such as VHF radio, GPS navigation system, radar, hydrophone and depth sounder. Skipper will be working alongside a naturalist onboard the vessel but will be expected to do interpretation of the fauna and flora as well.
It is essential the skipper works within the whale watching guidelines and work co-operatively with the other vessels and their captains.
Other duties will include daily maintenance and cleanliness of the vessel, helping suiting up guests in Alder Bay and communicating via cell phone with our Alert Bay office manager.
We are a small family owned business and have been in operation for 30+ years. Last season we retired the sailing vessel Tuan and purchased a 30ft fibreglass boat and re-designed our tours.
We are looking for a flexible, active and passionate skipper to join our small team of three.
Seasmoke Whale Watching has an excellent reputation within the whale watching community and it is essential the skipper represents Seasmoke in a professional and respectful way.
Alert Bay offers the employee a unique experience in a warm, friendly and culturally rich town. The area is teeming with wildlife and everyday is an adventure of a life-time for our guests. We hope to employ a skipper who will feel priviledged to help make our guests feel right at home.
