The Arena Foreman is responsible for all aspects of the operation of a NHL sheet Arena and a 4 sheet Curling rink facility. These duties include but are not limited to ice maintenance, refrigeration plant maintenance and monitoring, janitorial and general building maintenance both inside and outside, programming, budgeting, policy development and event planning. This position will periodically assume the duties and responsibilities of the Public Works labourer l position. This position is included in the CUPE Local 401 Bargaining Unit. Current rate of pay is $29.51-$30.74/hr and includes an attractive benefit package. This permanent position is based on a 40-hour work week and includes evening and weekend shifts. The Port Alice Arena is a seasonal facility. The Arena Foreman may be assigned to general duties in the Public Works Department when his/her services are not required at the Arena.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Extensive experience working in a recreational ice facility.
• High school diploma or equivalent GED. • Class 5 Power Engineer (refrigeration endorsement), Refrigeration Operator Certification or better. • Extensive experience in ice resurfacing. • Class 5 driver’s license. • Possession of current first aid training and certification.
• Knowledge and experience in minor building maintenance including plumbing, carpentry and painting.• The ability to handle power tools related to the required duties.
• WHMIS training. • Experience in the operation of a skate sharpener.
• The Arena supervisor must also hold the position of the Chief engineer of the on-site refrigeration plant.
