The Community Wellness Worker (CWW) provides client-focused access to treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals and families experiencing mental health and addictions issues. While building community relationships, the CWW promotes a culturally safe, healthy and supportive environment that instills a sense of dignity and respect. The CWW will provide advocacy, education, referrals and programs and activities to individuals, groups and families in the community. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to this position to effectively liaise and interact with staff, clients, organizations and the Kwakiutl community at large. The CWW provides other services to support implementation of the health work plan or to provide back fill coverage when directed.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Knowledge of the Kwakiutl community, culture and language an asset.
• Bachelor of Social Work / Recognized human service diploma / Recognized diploma or certificate in substance abuse or mental health counseling.
• Preference given to registered professional clinical members of an Accredited Professional Association or College (BCACC or BCASW), FNWACCB
• One year of related work experience.
• A significant understanding of mental health issues; addictions issues and concurrent disorders issues, and evidence based best treatment practices; Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act.
