Details:
Operate 28 ft. skiff with outboard motors to and from kelp beds - Harvest good quality kelp by hand using gaffs and knives to management expectations - Schedule and supervise up to 2 crew members - Maintenance of boat including, but not limited to, fueling, cleaning, minor repairs, organize and supervise repairs by contractors - Coordinate with production manager, crane truck and offloading facility - Monitor weather and tides to ensure safe and efficient harvesting - Load and offload harvest totes and complete paperwork as required by management
Seasonal, early April start until late summer/early fall (depends on plant production needs and kelp quality)
Wage rate is negotiable and depends on qualifications and experience
Possible opportunity to work part time at processing plant in the off season
Qualifications & Experience:
Small Vessel Operator (SVOP) and MED A3 or Pleasure Craft Operator card (PCOC) required - Experience operating vessels with outboards required - Rain gear and safety toed rubber boots required - Physically fit, punctual and safety minded - Transportation to/from vessel docking location, currently Quarterdeck Marina - Familiarity with local waters and experience with kelp harvesting an asset
