Objectives: Skills Link is part of HRSDC’s Youth Employment Strategy. The strategy is intended for youth, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain the skills, work experience and abilities they need to make a successful transition to the workplace

Services: Skills Link offers paid work experience placements to youth who face barriers to employment, such as single parents, Aboriginal youth, young persons with disabilities, recent immigrants, youth living in rural and remote areas and high school dropouts. Participants may receive $8.00 per hour for up to eight weeks to help them gain experience so they can achieve their employment goals. Participants may not be in receipt of employment insurance (EI) benefits and must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Skills Link Offers:

  • A paid work experience (Length: 200 – 240 hrs Wage: $8.00 hr.)
  • Funding for skills enhancement (Up to $200)
  • Funding for work safety gear (Up to $100)
  • An opportunity to gain valuable job skills in a specific employment sector
  • Workshops to improve employability skills
  • The prospect of meeting dynamic people
  • An opportunity to obtain local employment references

In order to be eligible for this program you must:

  • Be between 15-30 years of age
  • Not be in receipt of Employment Insurance benefits
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Have a social insurance number
  • Have little or no work history
