Hinton Pulp - West Fraser Mills

West Fraser's vision is to be the leading forest products company in Canada. They are hiring wood manufacturing tradespeople and professionals. Their Hinton Pulp operation is actively recruiting millwrights, pipefitters, steamfitters, HD mechanics, instrumentation mechanics & more and will be interviewing candidates in Campbell River at NIEFS May 22 - 23. New Horizons Care Corporation

A new project in Campbell River totals 94 beds in total. The project will rise three stories and employe 25 people on the day shift.

RCMP

The RCMP alone plans to hire 2,000 new police officers per year for each of the next three years. They are talking about 6,000 new candidates with nearly 1/3 of all RCMP members are stationed in BC.

Canadian Forces

Canadian Forces has set a target of recruiting 6,000 more soldiers per year for the next three years. Go through university, be sponsored for an apprenticeship and make starting wages near $30,000.

WestJet

Released expansion plans that will see the airline expand from 35% of the Canadian domestic air-travel market to as much as 50% of the market. That means more airplanes meaning more staffing. Each aircraft requires an additional 75-80 workers. They hire for attitude and train for skills!

Telus

The company expects to hire some 1,000 new technicians over the next three years, and that doesn't take into account retirements. Telus is BC's largest private employer, the salaries are good and the industry is cutting edge.

go2 - The Resource for People in Tourism

go2 has launched a new $500,000 'Move on Up' initiative designed to attract young people to the tourism sector. BC will need to recruit 11,500 new cooks and chefs between now and 2015.

Ministry of Children and Families

MCF have launched an ambitious plan to hire 100 social workers in 2006 and 400 to be hired over a three year period. These positions are being funded by an additional $421 million being put into MCF.

BC Trucking association offers grants/awards for training

Financial assistance is now available through the Flemming Sondergaard Memorial Education Endowment Fund. $3,000 Entrance Awards are available for "Earning Your Wheels" professional driver training or "Red Seal" commercial transport mechanic or diesel engine mechanic training. Interested individuals must complete the entrance awards application form and have a letter of endorsement from a BCTA member company with an intent to hire based on the results of the training program.
