THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Operations Field Planner or Forester at our Englewood Forest Operations in North Vancouver Island, BC.

What You'll Do: Under the supervision of the TFL Forester, the Senior Field Planner plays a supportive role in forest management and sustainability programs. Field Planners are responsible for field and office activities related to engineering layout, securing permits and supporting forest management and sustainability programs at the operations.

Who You Are: Our Ideal Candidate has a post-secondary degree or diploma in forestry or related degree in Natural Resource Management, plus 3 to 5 years of experience in Operations planning with increasingly responsible roles, and a current accreditation with the Association of BC Forest Professionals as an RFT or RPF.

Work Environment: This role is a combination of field and office work to be performed at our Englewood Forest Operation in Woss, BC. Company housing in Woss is available if desired. Many of our employees choose to live in Port McNeill and either commute or utilize company housing during the week.

About WFP's Forestry Team: WFP demonstrates an industry leading forest management strategy with a focus on silviculture, climate change, carbon management, biodiversity, public engagement, water and much more. Our Timberlands Operations are primarily located on the north and west portions of beautiful Vancouver Island. We have more than 100 Forest Professionals sustainably delivering timber from our 6 area based Tree Farm Licences and 10 volume based tenures to the 8 manufacturing facilities WFP owns and operates on Vancouver Island.

Qualifications & Experience: 
- Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Forestry or related degree in Natural Resource Management;
- Eligible for registration with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (RPF, FIT, ASFIT, TFT or RFT).
- Experience in coastal cutblock development;
- Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

- Working understanding and comprehension of Forest Management and Land Use Planning
- Knowledge of road construction and forest harvesting practices with a strong focus on improving safety, quality, and efficiency
- Ability to work in a team environment and possess good communication skills;
- A positive attitude, and willingness to learn new skills;
- Able to withstand the rigors of coastal fieldwork
- Experience with forestry software (RoadEng, Arcmap), and GPS data collection would be considered an asset.
- Valid BC driver’s licence, and ability to obtain level 1 First Aid
