Cruising Specialist Salary $55,422.02 - $63,164.54 annually, plus $38.87 bi-weekly Isolation Allowance

The North Island – Central Coast Natural Resource District is seeking an experienced forest technologist to join our Revenue team. The position will provide technical expertise and analysis of cruise plans and appraisal submissions, including field evaluations, in support of natural resource decision-making. The Cruising Specialist, as a subject matter specialist, provides technical advice to other resource technologists, both internal and external to government – and supports the technical delivery of other program areas including waste and residue, scaling, tenure administration, and forest stewardship in both the field and office environments.
Situated on the Northern tip of Vancouver Island, Port McNeill is home to a team of dedicated forest professionals tasked with managing the diverse forest and natural resource values over a geographically large area that also includes much of the world-renowned Great Bear Rainforest.

Qualifications & Experience:
• Degree, diploma, or equivalent in a natural resource field.
• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or equivalent, with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP).
• Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
• Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions in natural resource management.
Preference may be given to an applicant who:
• Has more than 3 years’ experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
• Has operational experience in coastal timber cruising, cutting permit appraisal review and/or forest harvest waste assessments.
• Holds an Accredited Timber Cruiser/Evaluator certification.
