Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre is currently seeking to fill a full time position for an Aboriginal Family Support Worker
Hours: 35 hours/week Salary: Based on education and experience Start date: As soon as possible
Under the supervision of the Programs Director, this program will provide individualized outreach support to families/parents by referral from Ministry of Children and Family Development under Child Protection and/or Child, Family and Youth Services. Families/ parents will receive assistance through the Child Protection process to develop a safety plan and build capacity to bring children back home.
Duties:
Provide support, advocacy, and guidance for families with children in temporary care of MCFD
Collaborate with social workers to develop the plan of care to have children returned home
Provide outreach support through home visits, community supports, interagency meetings
Provide transportation when needed
Assist families in accessing additional supports ie- doctors appointments, court attendance, social worker meetings, family planning meetings, etc.
Work collaboratively with local agencies- Mental Health, Crisis Centre, Health Centre, local First Nations, etc. to provide wrap around supports to clients
Ensure adherence to policies and procedures
Coordinate and facilitate or increase access to training and capacity building workshops for parents- first aid, food safe, car seat safety, parenting programs
Maintain and manage statistical data to complete and submit qualitative and quantitative reports
Work with supervisor to ensure adherence to budget plans
Coordinate and maintain professional development as appropriate
Participate in community engagements as required
Out of town travel and training as required
Qualifications & Experience:
Preferred undergraduate degree in social work or CYC or an equivalent experience with a diploma or certificate in a related field
Clear understanding of MCFD Child Protection and other Services available in the area
Class 5 drivers’ licence, Own transportation
Familiarity with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Publisher
Strong ability to develop service plans and work plans
Abundance of experience working with aboriginal families and aboriginal communities and MCFD
Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong interpersonal communication
Willing to complete a criminal records check through the Ministry of Justice
