Western Forest Products is looking for a Senior Division Accountant to join our Nanaimo Office in Nanaimo, B.C.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Division Accountant role is a strategic business partner to the General Manager of the Fibre Supply group. The Senior Division Accountant oversees the preparation and review of the monthly financial package for the division, prepares and reviews analysis of key business initiatives, and seeks opportunities to increase margin, mill log supply, and optimize the operations. Additionally, the Senior Division Accountant will ensure that appropriate controls are in place for all significant business processes and will work to increase transparency of the business.
RESPONSIBILITIES
•Work closely with and provides financial analysis to the General Manager of Fibre Supply Group on key business initiatives
•Review all log contracts for risk management and financial considerations prior to acceptance.
•Evaluation of all log purchase agreements against proforma.
•Responsible for month-end closing process including journal entries, standard reporting package, account reconciliations, and KPI tracking.
•Analyze monthly statement in terms of key issues in sales, costs, productivity, and margins.
•Lead and coordinate operation’s annual planning process, quarterly forecasts, and monthly forecasting.
•Prepare ad hoc management reports as needed.
•Evaluate current procedures and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
•Ensure compliance with Company policies, procedures and internal controls are in place for the division.
•Coach/develop/mentor team members and administration staff.
•Maintain business knowledge and relationships through regular contact with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications & Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge:
•Working knowledge of the log industry
•Strong business process and budgeting knowledge
•More than 5 years’ experience in a financial and/or business services capacity
Required Skills & Abilities:
•Improvement oriented and focused on identifying business efficiencies
•Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
•Good working knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
•Detail focused and strong ability to multi task with strong organizational skills
•Ability to work with tight deadlines and prioritize tasks
•Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, including building relationships with customers and government agencies
Required Professional Designation/Certification:
•Possess a CPA designation
