Job Description
K’awat’si Shellfish Company operates a shellfish aquaculture farm in the traditional territory of the Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw Nation. The remote farm is licensed as a deep-water tenure, and is currently cultivating both Pacific scallops and Pacific oysters. The farm is emerging out of a pilot phase and needs to expand and grow its production. The key skills required to succeed in this position include leadership, team-building, communication, work ethic and physical ability.
This is a camp position based out of Port Hardy. The camp schedule is 7 days on, 7 days off- but can be variable and subject to weather and the work load. The manager will supervise a crew of 2-4 individuals, and will work closely with a senior manager towards setting and meeting production targets for long-term profitability and success.
We are seeking an individual who has work experience and competencies in small marine vessel operation, small machinery, and knowledge/practice of work safety and operating procedures in remote settings. The position is physically demanding, and the ideal candidate will be fit and capable of lifting 40 lbs. The manager should have a basic understanding of shellfish farming and the biological requirements of rearing shellfish in a marine environment.
In addition to the physicality of the job, the right candidate must be able to read and interpret documents following the management regulations of the industry. Previous knowledge of regulations would be an asset.

· Must understand and be able to troubleshoot company assets, and maintain in good operational condition

Qualifications & Experience:
Requirements:
· Driver’s license
· Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Marine Emergency Duties (SDV/MED A3), Radio Operator (ROCM)
· Good physical fitness and capable of lifting 40 lbs
· Good attitude and willingness to learn
ASSETS:
· Knowledge of shellfish aquaculture
· Experience in marine aquaculture and/or fishing
· Skill mastery of boat & small machinery operations
· Knowledge of shellfish aquaculture
· Established safety record
· Level 1 First Aid and Transport Endorsement
