Reports to: Shellfish Farm Manager
Purpose: To supervise general farm operations including, but not limited to the planting, maintenance and harvest of the company’s scallops and oyster beds. The shellfish farm supervisor will also assist with various projects as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage assigned work using the best available resources.
Maintain organization for efficiency and profitability.
Emphasis on learning and representing company interests in crew supervision.
Understanding administration/business of shellfish.
Able to work tasks independently and learn to manage expectations within resources & capacity.
Support farm manager in SOP development by reviewing all farm operations and specific safety concerns for k'awat'si Shellfish Company.
Able to do aspects of orientation following procedure layout.
Performs checklists following SOP requirements.
Able to comprehend license and conditions and translation to farm work requirements.
Ensures manuals and other documents are accessible to other staff; begins learning WorkSafe BC and employee responsibilities.
Able to operate boats independently and with cautious independent supervision of other inexperienced staff and/or adverse weather. Basic maintenance of equipment should be practiced on a consistent basis.
Able to troubleshoot and prioritize work actions and responsibilities in lieu of shellfish husbandry requirements.
Able to supervise effectively with staff tasked appropriate responsibilities according to daily priorities.
Ability to recognize and manage diverse skillsets; ability to manage conflict with staff (while advocating for them) and exercise good decision-making representing company & staff interests.
Able to perform aspects of orientation for new crew.
Able to track work schedule and shellfish needs.
Identify critical interventions and be able to advise and work with farm manager on priorities.
Learn nuances of different shellfish growing methods and take initiative to learn the industry.

Physical and PPE Requirements:
Physical:
This work requires standing for prolonged periods.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on regular basis.
Other physicality required: Repetitive motions. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Dexterity. Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Reaching and extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Visual acuity to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, or to make observations of facilities or structures (ie. Equipment operation, safety risks, inspection).
Must be able to work on a floating platform and therefore being aware of foot placement and tripping hazards.
PPE:
· Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) must always be worn
· Basic PPE will be provided to staff
· Hand protection (latex gloves and work gloves) will be provided; workers are responsible for ensuring work gloves are cleaned regularly to minimize waste
· Sun protection (sunscreen) will be provided
Please Note: the job is physical, and that the remote-camp based with week-on/week-off schedule out of Port Hardy.

Assets:
Driver’s license
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Marine Emergency Duties (MED A3), Radio Operator (ROCM)
Asset: Minimum one year experience
