Do you want to use your construction skills to assist with building affordable homes for local families who need them, while gaining valuable experience in your trade? The Construction Helper will be responsible for working as part of a team with both skilled and unskilled individuals under the direction of the Site Supervisor to construct affordable housing for Habitat Homeowner families. This is a perfect entry-level position for a student studying carpentry.
This is an 8-week contract position with a start date of May 11th, 2021
35 hours weekly, Wage: $16 per hour
In addition to assisting with construction of housing, the position will involve:
- Orienting volunteers to daily tasks relating to various stages of the construction project
- Keeping track of and organizing tools
- Assisting with site set up and clean up; ensuring the site is safe and clean at all times
- General site supervision
- Complying with all safety regulations and ensuring volunteers do the same
- Developing a plan and implementing a youth engagement strategy for Habitat’s build projects including: strategies for outreach to youth; creating a youth-friendly approach to teaching; assisting with presentations to youth.
Qualifications & Experience:
Preferred Qualifications:
- An absolute commitment to build site safety
- Strong computer literacy, interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be able to carry construction materials, climb ladders, and lift heavy objects
- Ability to work with people of all races, faiths and backgrounds
- Skills in residential construction are an asset
