THE OPPORTUNITY
We are recruiting for a Production Supervisor, (Woods Foreman) for our Mid Island Forest Operations located in Menzies Bay, BC (20 minutes north of Campbell River).
What You’ll Do: The Production Supervisor is part of a team that is responsible for the efficient management of the falling, yarding, loading and hauling at the Operations, including supervision of the hourly production teams. Working closely with the Operations and Planning teams, you’ll be responsible for delivering on overall production targets and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, resulting in improved safety and environmental performance, efficiency, quality, and profitability.
Who You Are: This is a great opportunity for an experienced Woods Foreman with strong knowledge of logging processes on the Coast. We are looking for a self-motivated leader with a strong sense of initiative and ability to motivate and engage hourly employees.
About WFP's Forestry Team: WFP demonstrates an industry leading forest management strategy with a focus on silviculture, climate change, carbon management, biodiversity, public engagement, water and much more. Our Timberlands Operations are primarily located on the north and west portions of beautiful Vancouver Island, sustainably delivering timber from our 6 area based Tree Farm Licences and 10 volume based tenures to the 7 manufacturing facilities WFP owns and operates on Vancouver Island.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety and Environmental Performance
-Provide leadership in safety and environmental stewardship by demonstrating and ensuring the adherence of Company safety and sustainability processes and procedures.
Financial Performance
-Support the establishment and ongoing improvement of production phase metrics;
-Review metrics and utilize these to improve efficiency;
-Control inventory (i.e. F&B, TDI); and
-Recommend effective strategies for the financial well-being of the Operation.
Leadership
-Provide leadership and direction to improve safety and environmental performance, reduce operational costs, and drive efficiencies with Company hourly employees and contractors;
-Supervision of company hourly employees and contractors, ensuring safe work performance and the achievement of production goals;
-Ensure hourly employee and contractor awareness and compliance with safety, environmental and operational policies, procedures and regulations; and
-Hire, train, coach and manage performance of hourly employees and contractors.
Operations
-Oversight and coordination of the overall harvest production process to ensure production targets are met. This includes:
-Safe and efficient falling, yarding, loading, and hauling plans;
-Coordination and optimization of production and maintenance activities;
-Ensuring Company harvesting and maintenance specifications are adhered to;
-Coordinate activities with other phases to maximize value recovery opportunities (i.e. landing location, handling logs);
-Responsible for ensuring that operations are conducted within the standards of the Environmental Management System; and
-Work in partnership with the General Foreman and other Production Supervisors to ensure efficient fibre flow.
