The Museum at Campbell River is looking for an individual to assist with the day-to-day operation of the Museum Shop. The largest regional Museum on northern Vancouver Island, the Museum is visited annually by national and international tourists as well as residents. With a mandate to “preserve our past to inform our future” this is an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys working with the public and has an interest in learning about regional history. The Museum Shop Assistant is a key member of the Visitor Services team and is integral to creating a positive experience for Museum visitors.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Process shop transactions. Must demonstrate accurate cash handling and the ability to operate pont of sales and credit card systems.
- Open and close shop and balancing cash.
- Assist with displays and pricing inventory. (Bank deposits and special orders as required.)
- Ensure all security requirements in the Museum Shop are met.
- Supports museum activities as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Must have effective interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to handle cash effectively.
- Previous retail experience would be an asset but not necessary.
- An interest and knowledge in First Nations art and culture of North Vancouver island and some prior knowledge would be a key asset.
- Computer POS systems and basic computer skills are required.
