Reporting to the Environment & Community Engagement Manager,The Environmental Technician manages regular monitoring of environmental infrastructure, effluents and the receiving environment. The Technician monitors for compliance with legislation and permits governing the environmental aspects of the mining operations. This includes the organization and carrying out of monitoring programs, as well as performing analyses designed to satisfy specific monitoring requirements, and to evaluate the environmental impacts of day-to-day operations. This work requires a significant degree of interaction with various operating departments. More specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities
- conduct / supervise contractors for all monitoring required by permits and environmental legislation;
- develop and implement all water quality monitoring programs using best practices;
- maintain monitoring equipment in good working order;
- prepare samples for analyses by outside laboratories.
- maintain records of all monitoring and data analyses;
- analyze and interpret water and soil quality data;
- manage water quality database;
- prepare environmental monitoring reports for various regulatory agencies and in-house reports.
- work with mine staff, stakeholders and regulators to present and discuss environmental management strategies;
- provide support and technical information to site operators and senior management;
- plan and carry-out environmental and reclamation projects involving consultants, contractors and in-house personnel.
- conduct regular site and environmental infrastructure inspections;
- investigate and report on non-compliance events;
- install, monitor and maintain various environmental monitoring instrumentation such as dataloggers;
- conduct surveys of surface infrastructure
Qualifications & Experience:
Requirements:
- Knowledge of permits and environmental policies, environmental databases, hydrology and best practice sampling procedures, reclamation and closure and field work, use and maintenance of equipment and safety procedures.
