THE OPPORTUNITY
Western Forest Products is seeking a Production Supervisor Trainee to join our Mid Island Forest Operations for a 4-month fixed term contract starting in May 2023.
Who You Are: Our ideal candidate brings a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a related technical diploma, and has previous co-op or work experience in the forest products industry. You have a general knowledge of the Timberlands processes, strong analytical skills and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Work Environment: This position is to be performed in person at our Mid Island Forest Operations located in Menzies Bay, BC. This position runs on a 6x3 shift, 12-13 hours per day.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Production Supervisor Trainee is assigned to work closely with a Woods Foreman or General Foreman to learn and participate in activities related to wood-flow processes, as well as assist Production Supervisors achieve safety, sustainability and supervisory duties including:
- Assisting in development of yarding plans, coordination and optimization of loading fibre
- Coordination and optimization of hauling fibre
- Help ensure hourly employees’ compliance with safety, operational, and environmental policies
- Assist in ongoing improvement of production phase metrics
- Assist in coordinating road construction activities and supervision

Qualifications & Experience:
Education and Experience
- 1-2 years of experience in a Forestry Co-op or Field planner positions an asset;
- Preference to candidate’s that come from a engineering/layout background
- Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Forestry or related degree in Natural Resource Management;
- Eligible for accreditation with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (RPF or RFT)
