Looking for a work adventure in one of the most unique and thriving habitats in the world?
Look no further than the Discovery Islands! We are hiring a qualified SVOP boat captain
and naturalist to guide our spectacular adventures. Applicants with a diverse skill set,
education, required certification, (passion for ecology, marine biology, Indigenous history,
fishing) and local knowledge would all be a great asset for this position.
Job Type:
Seasonal, May – August (Training in May/June)
Part Time available 3-4 days a week in Peak Season
Seasonal contract 5 months, maybe more we are awaiting shoulder season contracts
Salary $25-$30 per hour Depending On Experience
Your responsibilities will include (not limited to):
● Guiding all kinds of adventure tours
● Serving lunch and or setting up picnics for guests
● Driving SVOP rated zodiacs (12 people max)
● Pre-trip checks, oil, racor’s, pump tubes
● Stocking boat with required gear
● Safety Brief before trip (at the dock)
● Maintaining the safety and comfort of the guests & vessel
● Maintaining a daily log of your trips
● Supply gear to guests (explain use)
● Landing boats and anchoring boats on the beach safely
● Loading kayaks
● Ability to guide guests for fishing opportunities would be a bonus!
● Adhere to Transport Canada safety standards on the water
● Adhere to current marine mammal regulations
● Responsible travel through hazards such as Tidal Rapids (unique to this area)
● Knowing local tides and weather patterns. (We will train you if you are new.)
● General cleaning of the boats at the end of your tours

Work Location:
Campbell River/Quadra Island BC. Quadra Island ferries are only 10 minute crossings from
Campbell River and run every 30 minutes, you walk on the ferries, or you live on Quadra
Island.
The boats are moored at the ferry berth on the West side of Quadra Island in Quathiaski Cove.
You will always depart from Quadra Island and pick up guests on either Quadra Island, Cortes Island or Campbell River.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelors of Science or post secondary Diploma of Fish, Wildlife & Recreation, OR
related/equivalent experience in the field
● Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
● MED A3 or equivalent
● Basic Marine First Aid
● Radio Operators Certificate Marine (ROC-M)
Required Skills and Knowledge:
● Boat driving experience as asset
● Competent in all weather conditions
● Guiding and interpretation skills
● Perform basic first aid when needed
● Ability to work alone
● Care for guests and any specific needs for duration of the trip
● Comfortable operating 12 passenger RHIBs
● Confident speaker and educator
● Knowledge of the area (we will train for this)
