Details:
a) Welcome diverse visitors to the Buttle Lake area, ranging from local to international, youth to senior, athletic to mobility-challenged.
b) Provide information about Park trails, plants, and wildlife, and about safe and appropriate behaviour in the Park; encourage hikers to report flora and fauna sightings requested in SWI’s new brochure.
c) Promote and assist with SWI educational and research programs & interpretive walks/hikes; sell books, brochures and maps, and record visitor statistics.
Qualifications & Experience:
• High School or post secondary level student with completed courses in relevant subjects (e.g. biology, environment, outdoor education, tourism)
• Eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Programme (be between 15-30 years of age and be legally entitled to work in Canada)
• Demonstrate the following characteristics:
o some knowledge of Strathcona Park and Natural History
o ability to work independently and as part of a team
o good communication and organizational skills
o self motivated and self reliant
o creative (skills in writing, photography, computer technology)
o a second language is an asset
• Valid driver’s license (the student is expected to arrange their own transportation to Buttle Lake but some compensation for gas expenses will be made.)
