Western Forest Products is looking for a First Nations Partnerships Coordinator to join our Timberlands Corporate Office, located in Campbell River, B.C.

Reporting to the Director, First Nations Partnerships and Business Ventures, the First Nations Partnerships Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the development of community and business partnerships with First Nations and First Nations organizations in the areas where Western operates.

The Coordinator will be part of a team working to define a higher standard in working with First Nations communities to develop long term, mutually-beneficial relationships. Supporting the Regional Managers, First Nations Partnerships, the Coordinator will work internally and externally to support the development and implementation of strategic protocols and approaches aligned with consistent and effective engagement with Indigenous communities. This work will support WFP’s timberlands and manufacturing operations, with the ultimate goal to deliver mutual benefits built on a foundation of mutual interests.

The successful candidate will have a background in forestry or natural resource development, direct experience in working with First Nations and First Nations organizations in BC, and a demonstrated track record of building positive, mutually-beneficial relationships with First Nations and other partners. Among other duties, the Coordinator will:
•Coordinate Western’s participation in outreach activities, including First Nations community events and job fairs
•Identify and evaluate potential capacity building and community engagement opportunities between Western and First Nations and work to promote First Nations involvement in forestry
•Build and maintain relationships with First Nations communities and organizations in support of information sharing and to encourage economic opportunities and/or partnerships.

With a preference to base the position in our office in Campbell River, this role will be best suited to a self-starting and motivated individual able to work in a busy environment with competing priorities.
Qualifications & Experience: 
Strong preference will be given to candidates with:
•University degree or diploma in natural resource or resource management sector (e.g., forestry, resource management, geography), public or business administration; communications or negotiation, or equivalent combination of formal training and practical experience;
•Minimum three years of relevant experience;
•Proven success in developing and implementing plans to support First Nations’ training, employment and capacity building, including identification of provincial and federal funding sources;
•Comprehensive understanding of the goals and perspectives of Coastal BC First Nations and knowledge of First Nations issues as they relate to the forest sector;
•Direct experience in information sharing and/or consultation, and engagement with First Nations;
•Direct experience in issues management;
•The capacity to work well in teams and independently;
•Exceptional written and oral communications skills; and,
•The ability to travel to First Nations communities on Vancouver Island and the Mainland Coast, the locations of which are sometimes remote.
