"In December 2022, BC Hydro awarded the civil works contract to Aecon-EBC General Partnership.

To be eligible to register and complete a company profile as a supplier you must conform to the following requirements:

  • Be a member in good standing of the Campbell River and District Chamber of Commerce or;
  • Have a current business license to operate within the City of Campbell River and surrounding area or;
  • Be a member of a Vancouver Island Chamber of Commerce, VIEA or VICA.
  • You must have a reasonable expectation that you can provide a service, or materials to one of the three listed dam safety projects; and
  • You will have to pay a one-time registration fee of $100.00 plus GST.

Businesses that hold a membership with the Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce will have the supplier registration fee of $100 waived".

John Hart Dam Seismic Upgrade Project

Staffing requirements will grow from contractor site mobilization in summer 2023 to a peak in 2024 to 2026, with the total construction period being over six years. Over this period, the project may generate just over 600 person-years of work or about 100 workers at the site. Some jobs may be short term, such as a few months, while other jobs may last multiple years. The actual needs and timing of jobs will be developed by the selected contractor as they consider the construction staging.

Ladore Spillway Seismic Upgrade Project

Staffing requirements will grow from contractor site mobilization in early 2025, with the total construction period being to 2029. Over this period, the project may peak at about 45 contractor workers per year working at the site in 2025 to 2027. The actual needs and timing of jobs will be developed by the selected contractor as they consider the construction staging.

Strathcona Dam Water Discharge Upgrade Project

Staffing requirements will grow from contractor site mobilization in early 2025, with the total construction period being to 2029. Over this period, the project may peak at about 90 contractor workers per year working at the site in 2025 to 2027. The actual needs and timing of jobs will be developed by the selected contractor as they consider the construction staging".

While approximately 82% complete at the time of this writing ( February 05, 2024) below is a summary of the major types of jobs/skills contractors or sub-contractors may be looking to hire:

ATCO Two Rivers Lodge: 

  • 757 module lodging complex

  •  hotel-like comforts

  • single-occupancy bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms

  •  100-person movie theatre, a licensed lounge, and a fully equipped gymnasium.

 

All staff working for Atco Two Rivers Lodge will require Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) certification prior to employment regardless of job classification. For the following positions, these are the additional required qualifications/certifications:

• Housekeeping – Previous experience in a hotel or like environment is ideal

• Janitorial – the above plus a clean driver’s abstract is required

• Culinary – Food Safe training plus previous experience as noted above is ideal

• General Labourer – Clean driver’s abstract required; any additional certifications ideal

• Trade’s Positions – Clean driver’s abstract, specific trade certifications

Specific positions may have additional certification requirements such as Confined Space, Elevated Platform, Forklift etc.  First Aid is not a requirement but always an advantage.  Any certification is of added value regardless of position.

• Carpenters: Red Seal Journeyperson Carpenter Ticket or ITA Registered Apprentice, Confined Space, Fall Arrest-Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform (AWP)

• Labourers:  Red Seal Journeyperson Cement Mason, OFA Level III First Aid Ticket, Confined Space, Fall Arrest- Fall Protection

• Equipment Operators –Ticketed Operators for the following types of equipment:

• Tower Crane Ticket and BC Crane Safety number

• Conventional Crane Ticket up to 400 Ton

• Hydraulic Crane Ticket up to 150 Ton

• 45 passenger bus - class 2 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract

• Tractor Trailer’s - Class 1 and clean driver’s abstract

• Heavy Equipment Operator Tickets for Loader, Grader, Telehandler (Zoom Boom) forklift

 

A pre-access drug and alcohol may be required.  Candidates must be willing to join the 3 unions (CMAW, LiUNA 1611 or IUOE Local 115), work outdoors in the elements, working at heights, uneven ground, ability to lift 50 lbs, confined spaces, safety sensitive environment.
